I didn't even realize that the S-Type came to the US with a manual until recently. It was only sold with an automatic (w/the "J Gate") initially, but I guess some executive at Jaguar actually thought "I know how we can improve sales in the Colonies! Add a manual transmission!"
I wish it were black, but blah blah blah MANUAL TRANSMISSION!
It's nice price for me, despite the need for a clutch. Now if only I can come up with 4 grand...

That's impressive.

3.0 Duratec is a bulletproof engine.

So it's a fancy Lincoln LS with a Taurus engine? Yikes.

For an 11 year old car, absolutely! :)

Clutch kit is only 300 bucks on Rockauto. Nice find!

Lol. That it is. Great engine used in many cars, from Noble GTs to the lowly Taurus, Mazda 6, Mondeo, Lincoln LS, and many more. Not a huge fan of the S-Type, but it is unique and the price is right. What's wrong with a DOHC 3.0 liter V6 with 240 HP that can rev to 7k RPM attached to a manual transmission? It will be lots of fun!

That seems like a nice price to me. I'd probably go for it.

This car is more than an engine. There are plenty of things that could break and keep it stationary.

That Taurus engine is pretty sweet.

can't lie, my buddy had one in his Probe. Wasn't bad.

Very true, but I think some of the fancier options were not available on the V6 cars, so maybe less is more?

Shame about everything which surrounds the manual transmission.

They can make a pretty good noise.

It's not as good looking as modern Jags and I'm sure it doesn't drive as well as say an e46, but I still like it.

Nice to meet a fellow Portlander.
I've seen a couple S-Type 3.0 MTs listed in our area. Too bad the X-Type MT only came with the 2.5.

Yeah this is more in Tigard/Tualatin and I live in SE, but close enough. :)
For me, the proportions on the X-Type are just off, it's like they shrunk the classic Jaguar design just a bit too much. On the other hand, they did offer a wagon (but only with the slushbox, sadly).

Tigard/Tualatin is close enough. I live in Aloha. Which is not nearly as nice as SE.
I'm actually a bigger fan of the X-Type than the S-Type. But that's me. I like the statelier look of the roof line, and the kicked-up rear fenders. Then again, I also like the AMC Gremlin. So there you go.
Yes, sadly, the X-Type wagon didn't come with an MT. I always thought that the S-Type needed a wagon companion, as well.

Would've been pretty nice. Still, I'm super impressed they imported the manual for the S Type, if only for a year. And they sold (like 5) X type wagons here, as well. Jaguar under Ford was actually pretty adventurous. Their cars under Tata today look much better (and supposedly drive better) but they're not going to send a wagon, much less a manual over here.

Nice Price! I'd drive that to the moon and back!
I would just turn to the lady and ask, "Shall we take the jaaaaag tonight?"

Sounds much better than "Shall we take the Camry or the Corolla?"
![]() 03/20/2014 at 17:41 |

Well, you're just putting in the wrong way. In that case, it's "Shall we take beige, or beeiiige?"

To be fair only the Camry is beige, the Corolla is white... :)

Now I really want one of these.
